YOUR GUIDE TO THE STARTING LINE
HOW CAN WE HELP?
From your first practice hit to the World Finals. Find your answer and get back to racing.
Getting started
Do I need an account to race?
Yes. You can browse public events, brackets, news and leaderboards without signing in. Create a free account and sign in to practice, challenge other racers, register for events and use member chat.
What are the different ways to race?
- Practice: solo hits with your own tree settings and saved history.
- Head to Head: a one-on-one race room, with a single hit or a best-of match.
- Community events: member-organized brackets with their own settings and results.
- RTCA sanctioned events: official races governed by RTCA participation rules.
- RTCA season races: designated qualifiers that earn season points, followed by the World Finals.
Find opponents in the Lobby. On smaller screens, open the menu button for site navigation.
Practice & settings
How do I make a practice hit?
Open Practice, choose your racing style, and check the interval and rollout. Tap to pre-stage. Then hold the main button or spacebar to stage, keep holding as the tree starts, and release to make your hit.
Auto PreStage skips the separate pre-stage tap when enabled. That preference is remembered. On mobile, use the Tree and Stats tabs to switch views.
What is .200 rollout, and when can I change it?
Rollout simulates the time between releasing the vehicle and clearing the stage beam. RTChallenge’s standard starting setting is .200 seconds. It is separate from the tree interval: Pro .400 describes the amber-to-green interval.
- Practice: you can adjust rollout and the available tree settings.
- Head to Head: organizers can choose rollout where site policy permits. Both lanes share it. It locks when the first round is armed.
- Lobby challenges: use the site’s shared rollout with Pro .400 and a single hit.
- Community and standalone RTCA events: check the published setup. Organizer changes depend on site policy and lock when the bracket is drawn.
- RTCA Season 1: fixed Pro .400, shared .200 rollout, no delay box and single-hit elimination.
Everyone in an event uses its shared competition settings. Match your practice setup to the event you plan to race.
How does the adjustable transbrake work?
Move the slider toward Slower to add delay to your release response. The arrows make small, variable nudges to simulate adjusting a real button, so no numerical time value is shown. Your position is remembered.
This personal adjustment is separate from the shared rollout and from a delay box. Delay-box support is available only for Top Bulb.
Where can I see my practice history?
Open My Stats. Practice hits save with their full tree configuration so you can compare matching setups. You can filter your history and delete individual runs, a date range or all saved practice runs.
The warm-up tree on an event page is just for warming up. It does not save hits or add to your stats.
Head to Head & Lobby
What happened to Live Racing?
It is now called Head to Head, which better describes one-on-one challenges. The race rooms and existing links still work.
How do I race a friend?
Open Head to Head, choose single hit, best-of-three or best-of-five, and select your available tree settings. Create the room and share its invitation link. You can also enter an opponent’s email to reserve lane two and send an invitation.
Both racers sign in, enter the room and press Ready before pre-staging and staging. The lower clean reaction wins; clean beats red, and a double red goes to the racer closest to zero. Follow the main button to advance through a multi-hit match.
How does Accept race challenges work?
Turn it on in the Lobby to appear as available while you are active on the site. You can browse or practice without keeping the Lobby open. Invitations appear as a pop-up and wait until your current racing round finishes.
Lobby challenges use Pro .400, a single hit and the site’s shared rollout. Use Head to Head for custom formats. Turn the switch off when you do not want invitations.
What is the difference between Lobby and My races?
The Lobby tab helps you find an opponent. My races lists your existing race rooms. Member chat is another place to meet racers and organize a matchup; event pages also have chat for that event.
Events
How do I enter an event?
Open Events and choose a race from Today’s Events or the calendar. Check its start time, tree settings, entry requirements and prizes, then register. RTCA races require the separate RTCA membership step first.
Joining RTCA does not enter you in any event. Return to your chosen event and register. Registration closes when the field fills or the bracket is drawn.
Can I organize my own race?
Yes. Sign in and choose Create event. Set a name, schedule, entry limit and racing style. Entry-limit options are 8, 16, 32 and 64 racers. Pairings can be single hit, best-of-three or best-of-five. You can add sponsors and share the event link.
A member-created event is a community race unless officially sanctioned. An organizer’s name or “RTCA” in the title does not make it sanctioned.
What should I do when an event starts?
Be signed in and on the event page at the scheduled start. Scheduled events start automatically when eligible and begin a two-minute grace countdown. Watch for Enter Race Room, enter your assigned room, and press Ready.
Being on the event page does not enter your room. Once one racer enters, the other has two minutes to join. After both enter, there are two minutes to stage. When both are pre-staged and one fully stages, a final 10-second staging allowance begins. Missing a deadline can forfeit the pairing.
What if I cannot make a race?
Withdraw from its event page as soon as you know. For RTCA events, withdraw at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start and before the bracket is drawn. If entries are already locked, contact support@rtchallenge.com immediately with the event name. Late notice does not guarantee exemption from a no-show.
RTCA & Season 1
Which races are RTCA-sanctioned?
RTCA is the RT Challenge Association. Sanctioned races are official events run under its rules and recorded in RTCA results.
During an active season, only series races are sanctioned. Between seasons, RTCA may hold standalone sanctioned races, limited to one per day.
Second Chance races are never RTCA-sanctioned, even when RTCA organizes them. They do not earn sanctioned wins or season points.
I have an account. Why do I also need to join RTCA?
Your site account lets you practice and race. RTCA membership is a separate step where you read and accept the official participation rules. Read the rules and join RTCA, then return to the event and register.
Membership is complimentary through December 31, 2026, covering all of Season 1. No card or payment is required. From January 1, 2027, continued membership requires paid renewal, with details announced in advance. Joining now does not authorize an automatic charge.
How does Season 1 work?
Season 1 opens October 1, 2026, at 8 PM Eastern with the RTCA Winter Nationals. There are 30 qualifiers over ten weeks, with up to 64 racers per race. Your best ten event scores count.
Attend 21 or more qualifiers for a 20-point bonus, and all 30 for another 30 points. The top 16 qualify for the World Finals on December 10 at 9 PM Eastern. Qualifiers have event prizes; the Finals award cash prizes. See each event for specific awards and conditions.

What is RacerRep?
RacerRep tracks reliability. Racers start at 100. The first event no-show produces a warning without a deduction; later no-shows cost increasingly more points. Attending an event restores one point after it finishes, up to 100. Signing up or watching alone is not attendance.
Series events require at least 80. Other sanctioned RTCA races require at least 70. Check your score in Account, and read the participation rules for full details.
Account & help
Where can I change my email preferences?
Open Email preferences to manage race notifications, Receive email news and Daily race announcements separately. Daily announcements list today’s public races at 6 AM Eastern, with entry links. No email is sent on days without upcoming races. News emails include an unsubscribe link. Account-verification messages are needed to complete email/password signup; check your spam folder if one has not arrived.
What does a timing warning or invalid hit mean?
The browser may have paused or missed a timing deadline, so the hit cannot be treated as a reliable result. A long frame gap means the screen did not update on time; it does not necessarily mean your internet was slow.
Keep the race tab in the foreground and avoid switching apps during a hit. If the problem repeats, send support the race link, device, browser and exact warning. Browser results are not hardware-certified timing measurements.
How do I get help?
Email support@rtchallenge.com with your racer name, event or match link, device and browser, and what happened. A screenshot helps. Never send your password or sign-in code.
